The Gateway Emergency Preparedness Garden Renewal Project. The North Hills Community Association (https://northhillscommunity.org/) has recently adopted the Gateway Garden with the intent of creating a fire-safe demonstration garden using primarily native plants. Conceived in 1995 and actualized in 2003, the Gateway Emergency Preparedness Exhibit Center Garden is located at 2299 Tunnel Road, Oakland, CA 94618. The garden and pavilion were designed to be an educational facility to provide information on the 1991 Oakland Hills Fire and the ever-present Hayward Fault. The half-acre garden was simple in form and represented at the time of its inception in 1995 a fire-safe landscape. The garden has since evolved into its current state of massed non-native plants, aloe, and weedy species.
We are holding work days every 2nd & 4th Saturday of the month from 9-11AM. Future Meetings: September 9/14 & 9/28; October 10/12 & 10/26; November 11/9; weather permitting.
Help shape the garden’s future and build community. For Questions, please contact Fred Booker, fred@geomorph.com or Nancy Mueller, nancy@berkhills.com
