Sunday, October 18, 1 to 4pm, at the Gill Tract Community Farm, 1050 San Pablo Ave, Albany.

Free plants to take home, and pots 1 or 5 gallon and potting soil are appreciated
The work is potting rooted cuttings of California pipevine (Aristolochia californica) from the bins into individual planters, settling stock into its beds, and keeping the nursery tidy. No experience needed, everything is taught on the spot, and you can come for part of it rather than the whole three hours. These are the vines rescued from Strawberry Creek on the UC Berkeley campus ahead of the excavation there, and pipevine is the only plant the pipevine swallowtail can lay its eggs on, so every pot is future butterfly habitat. Take a plant home if you would like one. Wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you do not mind getting soil on. Friends and kids welcome. The farm is at 1050 San Pablo Ave in Albany: by car, take the Buchanan St exit off 580, turn right onto Jackson St and the entrance is on your left. AC Transit 52 and 18 both stop nearby, and it is a short ride up the Ohlone Greenway from North Berkeley BART. We are trying a Sunday this time after a run of weekday evenings, so check this page for the next one rather than assuming the hour. Pots 1 or 5 gallon, and potting soil are appreciated.
