This month’s speaker, UC Davis professor Valerie Eviner, will review recent findings about the environmental changes occurring in California’s grasslands and how they are impacting resilience to fires and droughts. She will also discuss the building blocks of resilience in these grasslands, including the wildflower seedbank, native perennial grasses, and soil carbon, and the management approaches that can enhance these mechanisms of resilience.
Valerie Eviner is a professor of Ecosystem Management and Restoration in the Department of Plant Sciences at UC Davis. Her work focuses on understanding the ecological mechanisms that maintain grassland composition and ecosystem function, and how to enhance these with management. She is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Ecological Society of America, and the Earth Leadership Program.
This program will be presented online via Zoom. If you have questions, email programs@ebcnps.org.
