Bay Leaf readers usually see one article per year on the stinkwort (Dittrichia graveolens) removal project, and the update is often at the very end of the work period. Usually, the news is that a lot of work has been done, and stinkwort sites are diminished and sometimes even eliminated.
This year is different. Although last year was successful, at the very end of the stinkwort removal period we discovered a large infestation in Moraga. We were able to remove much of it, but seed set had already begun, so we knew there would be more stinkwort at this site in 2023. This year we have negotiated permission to access the site, and we can begin removal in mid-July.
Here’s an opportunity to join me in making the East Bay just a little bit better. We have good methods, plenty of time, and cooperative land owners. It would be great to work with you! For more information, contact Barbara Leitner at stinkwort@ebcnps.org.
