Volunteer in the parks in October with our CNPS East Bay Chapter and like-minded organizations to remove invasive weeds and create more habitat for native plants. We recommend wearing closed-toe shoes with good tread for slopes and long pants to prevent tick and poison oak exposure. Water and hats are always good ideas.
Garber Park (Oakland)

Volunteer with the Garber Park Stewards during the month of ghouls and ghosts! Activities include raking main trails, removing non-native plants, and restoring a few sections of the trails to help make the park more walkable and more fire safe. Tools, gloves, and snacks will be provided. Bring your water bottle, and wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty: long sleeves and pants and sturdy closed-toe shoes. Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve (Oakland)

Meet at the Old Tunnel Road Staging Area (on Old Tunnel Road off Fish Ranch Road on the Orinda side of the park, east of the Caldecott Tunnel)

We will meet by the cattle gate at the Skyline Trail, but we may go up Quarry Road to attack stinkwort (Dittrichia graveolens). Bring shears, clippers, or loppers if you have them. Stinkwort is an annual that dies after seeding, so it works to chop it off at the base. Bring water and gloves if you have them, but we can provide loaner tools and gloves as needed.
Huckleberry Botanic Regional Preserve (Oakland)

Depending on weather, we may return to pull periwinkle (Vinca) at the Pinehurst staging area. However, limited parking on Pinehurst means that we can best help the park by carpooling from the main lot, so that’s where we’ll meet.
