Plants always need a little love to look their best (don’t we all?). Grooming is an ongoing bit of love to help our customers see the possibilities of beautiful native plants in their garden. Grooming primarily involves removing dead leaves, and it does not require specialized pruning knowledge. You will receive training about the grooming needs of the 200-plus different species of plants at the nursery and their seasons of dormancy. It’s a meditative job, very calming. This is a great job for someone who loves being close to native plants and caring for them.
Here’s what we’re looking for:
Plant Groomer
Location: Native Here Nursery
Qualifications: Ability to work outdoors, on your feet, at the nursery, several hours per month. Comfortable using clippers.
Responsibilities: All work is at the nursery. Remove dead leaves from the plants, then collect and properly dispose of waste on-site. The production manager will advise you about areas and species most in need of attention.
Time commitment: 3-4 hours per month, flexible. Best to start out during regular nursery hours, Tuesdays 12-3, Fridays 9-12, Saturdays 10-2, but once trained you can work at other hours.
Whom to contact: Beth Wurzburg, volunteer-nhn@ebcnps.org
You would be amazed at how wonderful our plants looked when we were closed during the beginning of the pandemic and had extra time for grooming. You can make this a reality for us all the time!
